Channel layout: If the AC3 source contains surround sound, make sure the converter preserves the original channel count and sample rate. Some tools may downmix multichannel audio unless configured correctly.

File size: APE files are usually larger than AC3 because lossless compression retains all encoded audio data. This is normal and expected.
