Free online DB3 to DOC converter

A DOC file is useful when records stored in a DB3 database must be edited as a Word document, printed, or sent to someone without database software. The conversion extracts database fields into a document; it does not preserve database queries, relationships, forms, or application behavior.

What the DB3 format is

DB3 is ambiguous. It commonly refers to a dBASE III database, usually containing structured records similar to a DBF file, but some applications use the .db3 extension for an SQLite database.

dBASE III files appear in older accounting, inventory, address-book, GIS, and business-record systems. A dBASE database may also include related index or memo files, such as .dbt and index files; the main table alone may not contain all long text fields.

An SQLite file identified as .db3 is a relational database created by software such as mobile applications, embedded devices, and custom programs. Identify the format before converting: open a copy with a database application, inspect it with a file-type utility, or ask the program that created it. Do not rename a dBASE file to SQLite or the reverse.

What the DOC format is

.doc is the legacy Microsoft Word 97–2003 document format. It stores formatted paragraphs, tables, images, headers, and page settings in a word-processing document that Microsoft Word and LibreOffice Writer can open.

DOC is appropriate when the recipient specifically requires the older Word format or when the database contents need to become a printable, manually editable report. It is less suitable than a database or spreadsheet for sorting, filtering, validation, and repeated updates. DOCX is generally preferable when the target application accepts it, but it is not the same format.

How to actually convert DB3 to DOC

Using 101convert.com

1. Make a backup of the original .db3 file and any related database files.
2. Open the DB3-to-DOC converter on 101convert.com; the conversion is available free without installing software.
3. Upload the DB3 file, select DOC as the output format, and start the conversion.
4. Download the resulting DOC file and open it in Word or LibreOffice Writer to verify field order, character encoding, tables, and page breaks.

This method is appropriate when the converter recognizes the particular DB3 variant and the database does not require a password, linked files, or application-specific interpretation.

Using LibreOffice for a dBASE database

1. Install LibreOffice and open the dBASE table with Calc using File → Open. If the file has a nonstandard .db3 extension, make a copy and use a temporary .dbf extension only if the file is confirmed to be a dBASE table.
2. Check the import settings, especially the character set, delimiter, and date interpretation. Select the encoding that displays accented characters correctly.
3. Select the required records and fields in Calc, then copy them.
4. Open Writer, paste the data, and choose a table-paste option if the records should remain in columns. Add headings and page formatting as required.
5. Save with File → Save As, select Word 97–2003 (.doc), and confirm the legacy-format warning.

Using SQLite for a DB3 database

For an SQLite-based file, inspect the schema and export the required table instead of opening it as dBASE:

Open records.csv in LibreOffice Calc, verify the delimiter and encoding, copy the required data into Writer, and save as Word 97–2003 (.doc). Replace table_name with the actual table name; exporting every table into one document may produce unrelated or unreadable internal data.

Quality and compatibility limits

The result is a document representation of selected records, not a functional database. Indexes, relationships, primary keys, queries, forms, validation rules, macros, and permissions are not transferred to DOC.

Memo fields, binary objects, null values, multiline text, dates, and non-ASCII characters require checking after conversion. A DB3 file that depends on companion files may lose memo content if only the main file is supplied. Large tables can create unwieldy DOC files; filter records and choose only necessary columns before export.

Keep the original database unchanged and compare record counts after conversion. If the output contains sensitive records, use a local desktop workflow instead of uploading the file, and remove temporary CSV exports after verification.
