What the ASS format is

Its advantage is compatibility with equipment and software that support Cavena 890, not broader portability or richer styling. Implementations can differ in accepted character encoding, timestamp or frame-number representation, line length, and filename relationship to the video. Confirm the target system’s required 890 variant before exporting.

How to convert ASS to 890

1. Keep a copy of the original .ass file. It is the only reliable source for restoring styling or correcting timing after conversion.

Quality and compatibility limits

ASS supports substantially more presentation data than many broadcast subtitle formats. Conversion may remove or simplify fonts, colors, outlines, shadows, positioning, karaoke timing, vector drawings, animations, and font references. If the target format supports only plain timed text, recreate essential placement or emphasis in the receiving system.
