Understanding the RTE and RFT file formats

RFT files, on the other hand, are usually a misspelling or variation of the RTF (Rich Text Format) file extension. RTF is a widely supported document format developed by Microsoft, designed for cross-platform document interchange with support for text formatting, images, and more.

How to convert RTE to RFT

Since RTE is a proprietary or less common format, and RFT is likely intended to be RTF, the conversion process involves opening the RTE file in its native application and exporting or saving it as an RTF file. If you specifically need an .rft extension, you can simply rename the resulting RTF file to have an .rft extension, as the file structure is the same.

Recommended software for conversion

• Microsoft Word: If your RTE file can be opened in Word, use File → Save As and select Rich Text Format (*.rtf) as the output format.
• LibreOffice Writer: Open the RTE file, then use File → Save As and choose Rich Text Format (.rtf).
