Free online OFF to 3MF converter

A 3D-printing slicer or printer workflow may require 3MF instead of the older OFF mesh format. Converting the model preserves its polygon geometry while making it easier to package for slicing, sharing, and print settings.

What the OFF format is

OFF, or Object File Format, is a plain-text format for polygonal 3D geometry. It stores vertices and faces, and some variants include color data, but it does not provide the packaging, metadata, materials, or print-oriented structure associated with 3MF.

OFF files commonly come from academic geometry datasets, procedural-modeling tools, mesh-processing applications, and older 3D utilities. MeshLab is a suitable desktop program for opening and exporting OFF files.

What the 3MF format is

3MF is a ZIP-based 3D-printing format designed to contain one or more meshes together with units, object relationships, colors, materials, and optional print metadata. Slicers such as PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer, and Microsoft 3D Builder generally handle 3MF more completely than STL.

Use 3MF when the receiving application supports it, when a model must retain scale or color information, or when several objects and print-related resources need to stay together in one file.

How to convert OFF to 3MF

Using MeshLab

1. Install and open MeshLab.
2. Select File → Import Mesh and open the .off file.
3. Inspect the model in the viewport. Check for missing faces, inverted surfaces, holes, or an unexpected scale.
4. If necessary, use MeshLab filters under Filters → Cleaning and Repairing to remove duplicate vertices, close small holes, or repair other mesh defects.
5. Select File → Export Mesh As.
6. Choose 3MF as the output format, enter a filename such as model.3mf, and confirm the export.
7. Open the resulting file in the target slicer and verify dimensions, orientation, object count, and printability before slicing.

Using the built-in online converter

You can convert the file on 101convert.com for free without installing software: upload the OFF file, select 3MF as the output, start the conversion, and download the resulting .3mf file. Review the downloaded model in a slicer because online conversion cannot correct every invalid mesh.

Quality and compatibility limits

OFF normally has no standardized unit declaration. MeshLab and the receiving slicer may therefore interpret dimensions differently; set the intended units and verify a known measurement after import. A model exported as millimeters can appear 25.4 times too large or too small if another program assumes inches.

Conversion cannot create information absent from the OFF file. Materials, textures, assemblies, supports, print profiles, and reliable color assignments may be lost or require manual setup. 3MF can store these resources, but the converter can preserve them only when the source contains compatible data.

Check that the exported mesh is closed, has consistent face normals, contains no self-intersections, and uses a sensible polygon count. A 3MF extension does not automatically make an invalid OFF surface printable.
