Quality, compatibility, and limitations

This conversion is inherently lossy. Because GSM is optimized for speech at very low bitrates, music, stereo content, and high-frequency detail from an audiobook will sound noticeably degraded. Important limitations include:

• Chapter markers, bookmarks, and rich metadata are usually lost.
• GSM is typically mono, so stereo audio will be downmixed.
