Free online HTML to FB2 converter

Some e-readers and ebook libraries accept FB2 files but cannot use a saved web page as a book. Converting a cleaned HTML document creates reflowable text with book metadata, sections, and supported images for FB2-compatible readers.

What HTML is

HTML (HyperText Markup Language) defines the structure of web pages through headings, paragraphs, lists, links, tables, and images. Browsers, website editors, CMS platforms, email archives, and document-export tools produce .html or .htm files.

An HTML file may rely on separate CSS files, image folders, web fonts, JavaScript, or remote resources. Those dependencies affect conversion: an HTML file uploaded without its referenced local images cannot provide those images to the converter.

What FB2 is

FB2 (FictionBook 2.0) is an XML-based ebook format intended for structured prose. An .fb2 file can contain metadata, authors, titles, annotations, sections, paragraphs, footnotes, poems, and embedded images.

FB2 is widely used by FBReader, Cool Reader, AlReader, PocketBook devices, and Russian-language ebook libraries. Its text reflows to the reader's screen and reader-selected font settings, but it is not a web-layout format: scripts, forms, video, audio, navigation widgets, complex tables, positioned elements, and advanced CSS do not convert faithfully.

Convert the file

1. Open the source file in a browser and confirm that the required text, chapter headings, and images are available.
2. Remove site navigation, advertisements, repeated headers, cookie notices, and unrelated links before conversion. Mark chapter titles with real heading elements such as <h1> and <h2>, rather than styled paragraphs.
3. Upload the .html or .htm file to the HTML-to-FB2 converter on 101convert.com, run the conversion, and download the .fb2 result. The service can be used free without installing software.
4. Open the result in an FB2 reader and check the title, author, chapter breaks, paragraph spacing, links, and images.

For local conversion, Calibre can import many standalone HTML files and export FB2. Add the file with Add books, select it, choose Convert books → Convert individually, set Output format → FB2, review the metadata and table-of-contents options, then select OK. Use Save to disk to copy the converted file from the Calibre library.

Quality and compatibility checks

• Use a complete HTML document with a declared character encoding, preferably UTF-8. Incorrect source encoding can produce damaged non-Latin characters.
• Keep referenced image files beside the HTML file for local conversion. For browser-based conversion, use a self-contained source when possible; an uploaded HTML file alone cannot include files stored only on your computer.
• FB2 preserves document structure better than visual design. Basic headings, paragraphs, lists, and images usually transfer; multi-column pages and layout-driven tables usually need manual cleanup.
• Check metadata after conversion. The HTML <title> often includes a website name or page label instead of the actual book title.
• FB2 is not supported natively by every device. Kindle readers, for example, normally require another format or a separate conversion workflow.
