What the GLB format is
GLB is the single-file binary form of glTF 2.0. It stores a 3D mesh, scene hierarchy, materials, textures, and related metadata in one file, making it suitable for browsers, WebGL viewers, game engines, AR pipelines, and many digital-content tools.
Unlike BREP, GLB normally contains triangulated or polygonal surface data, not editable parametric solids. Its compact packaging, predictable runtime structure, and support for physically based materials make it more convenient for distribution and interactive display than a CAD exchange format.

FreeCAD can also be used when the installed release provides GLB or glTF export. Import the model with File → Open or File → Import, select the Part workbench if needed, and export the visible object through File → Export as .glb or .gltf. If only .gltf export is available, the result may reference separate binary and texture files rather than being a single GLB; use a glTF packaging tool afterward or choose GLB directly in a newer release.
Quality and compatibility limits
BREP-to-GLB conversion is inherently a CAD-to-mesh conversion. Small fillets, holes, sharp edges, and curved surfaces can lose accuracy if the tessellation tolerance is too coarse. Excessively fine tessellation preserves detail but increases polygon count, memory use, and loading time.
BREP appearance data is not guaranteed to map directly to glTF materials. Object colors may transfer, but CAD-specific shaders, layered materials, annotations, construction geometry, constraints, and parametric edit history generally do not. Verify units after export because glTF does not preserve every CAD application's unit convention in the same way; check the model scale in the destination application.
If the BREP contains multiple solids, confirm that the converter preserves them as separate nodes when selection, animation, or per-part materials matter. For later engineering edits, retain the original BREP and use GLB only as a visualization or delivery copy.
