How to convert PKT to PKA

3. Check the topology and make any needed changes.
4. Use File → Save As or, in some versions, File → Save As Activity.
5. Select .pka as the output format if it is offered.
6. Open the saved .pka file to confirm that it loads correctly.

If your version of Packet Tracer does not offer a direct .pkt to .pka option, you may need to create the activity manually. That usually means opening the .pkt file, adding activity instructions and assessment elements, and then saving it as a .pka file.

Software recommendations

Cisco Packet Tracer is the correct and most practical software for this file type. Because both formats are native to Packet Tracer, third-party converters are uncommon and often unnecessary.

Online converters: There is no widely trusted standard online converter for PKT to PKA. Avoid uploading lab files to unknown web services, especially if they contain course content, credentials, or network designs.

Compatibility and limitations

Version compatibility matters. A PKA file created in a newer Packet Tracer release may not open properly in an older release.

Not every PKT file becomes a complete activity automatically. If you need instructions, scoring, or validation, you may have to build those elements into the file before saving it as PKA.

Keep a backup of the original PKT. That makes it easy to return to the unmodified topology if the activity version needs changes.
