Notes on quality and compatibility

If the MKA file contains a lossy codec such as AAC or Opus, converting it to TTA will not improve quality; it will only create a new lossless container around already lossy audio, which usually increases file size. For true archival use, the best results come from MKA files that contain FLAC or another lossless source.

Compatibility is another important factor: TTA support is much less common than FLAC support. Some media players and devices may not open TTA files at all. Also, because MKA can store subtitles, chapters, and multiple audio streams, those extra elements are usually not preserved when converting to a single TTA audio file. If you need broad playback support, consider whether FLAC may be a better target format.
