Convert FLP to VDI
FLP and VDI serve different purposes; direct conversion is not possible, but you can use them together in a VM.

Understanding FLP and VDI file formats
FLP files are FL Studio Project files, created by the FL Studio digital audio workstation. These files store music project data, including arrangements, instrument settings, and effects, but do not contain actual audio data. On the other hand, VDI files are VirtualBox Disk Image files, used as virtual hard drives for Oracle VirtualBox virtual machines. They store the contents of a virtual machine's hard disk, including operating systems and user data.
Is it possible to convert FLP to VDI?
Direct conversion from FLP to VDI is not possible, as these formats serve entirely different purposes. FLP is for music project data, while VDI is for virtual machine disk storage. There is no software or converter that can transform an FL Studio project into a virtual disk image, as the data structures and intended uses are unrelated.
Alternative approaches
If your goal is to use FL Studio within a virtual machine, you can:
- Create a VDI file using Oracle VirtualBox.
- Install an operating system and FL Studio inside the virtual machine.
- Transfer your FLP files into the virtual machine by sharing folders or using USB passthrough.
To do this, use VirtualBox → New to create a VM, then follow the prompts to create a VDI disk. After installing the OS and FL Studio, use Devices → Shared Folders to access your FLP files inside the VM.
Recommended software
- Oracle VirtualBox – for creating and managing VDI files and virtual machines.
- FL Studio – for opening and editing FLP project files.
Summary
There is no direct way to convert FLP files to VDI files, as they are fundamentally different. However, you can use both formats together by running FL Studio inside a VirtualBox VM and transferring your FLP files into the virtual environment.
