Understanding sxt and a3s file formats

SXT files are typically associated with sound sample data used in music production, particularly with the Reason NN-XT Advanced Sampler by Propellerhead. These files store instrument and sample mapping information for digital audio workstations (DAWs).

A3S files, on the other hand, are sample instrument files used by the Native Instruments Kontakt sampler or other audio software. They contain similar data—instrument settings, sample mapping, and sometimes embedded audio.

How to convert sxt to a3s

Direct conversion between SXT and A3S is not natively supported by most DAWs, as these formats are proprietary to their respective software. However, you can achieve conversion by exporting the instrument or sample data from Reason and then importing it into a sampler that supports A3S files.

Step-by-step conversion process

1. Open your SXT file in Reason.
2. Export the samples and instrument settings:
   • Go to File → Export → Song as Audio File to export the audio, or manually export each sample.
3. Open Native Instruments Kontakt or another sampler that supports A3S files.
4. Import the exported samples into Kontakt:
• Use File → Import or drag-and-drop the samples into a new instrument.
5. Save the instrument as an A3S file using File → Save As and select the A3S format.
