  1. Install Calibre, choose Add books, and open book.html. Select Convert books → EPUB, then set the title, author, language, and cover in the metadata fields.

For one PNG, use one <img> element and match the source filename exactly, including its extension and capitalization. Keep the images beside the HTML file, or use correct relative paths, so Calibre can include them in the EPUB.

Quality and compatibility limits

  • PNG compression is lossless, but high-resolution scans can make the EPUB large. Resize images for the intended screen before conversion; JPEG can reduce photographic page size when some quality loss is acceptable.
  • This HTML approach creates a reflowable EPUB in which each image scales to the available reading area. Reader margins, screen proportions, and image-scaling behavior can change the apparent page size.
  • Fixed-layout EPUB 3 can preserve page dimensions more closely for comics and scanned books, but support varies by reader. Use PDF when exact physical page layout and consistent printing matter more than ebook reflow.
  • Run OCR separately with software such as Tesseract if the result needs searchable or selectable text. OCR accuracy depends on scan resolution, contrast, language, and page quality.
  • Validate the EPUB with an EPUB checker and test it in the intended reader. Unsupported CSS, incorrect paths, oversized images, and incomplete navigation can produce blank pages or broken books.
