Some presentation viewers, websites, and image-based systems cannot open PowerPoint files but accept JPG images. Converting a presentation creates a separate static image for each slide, which can simplify sharing, embedding, printing, or archiving.

What the PPTX format is

.pptx is the XML-based presentation format used by Microsoft PowerPoint and supported by LibreOffice Impress, Apple Keynote, and Google Slides. It stores editable slide objects such as text, shapes, charts, images, themes, animations, speaker notes, hyperlinks, and embedded media.

PPTX is the appropriate format when recipients must edit slides or preserve selectable text and presentation structure. Rendering can change if the receiving system lacks the original fonts or does not support particular effects, media types, or linked files.

What the JPG format is

.jpg and .jpeg are extensions for the JPEG compressed raster-image format. JPG opens in web browsers, phones, image viewers, office systems, and many publishing platforms without presentation software.

JPG produces relatively small files and works well for slides dominated by photographs, gradients, and other continuous-tone content. Its lossy compression can blur small text and create artifacts around letters, lines, screenshots, and other sharp edges. A JPG contains only a static rendering: it does not retain editable objects, animations, transitions, speaker notes, hyperlinks, audio, video, or slide structure.

How to convert with Microsoft PowerPoint

1. Open the PPTX in PowerPoint and check the slide dimensions, fonts, images, and effects before exporting.
2. Choose File → Save As or File → Export, then select JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg) as the file type. In some PowerPoint versions, use File → Export → Change File Type.
3. Choose the destination folder and save the file.
4. When PowerPoint asks which slides to export, choose Every Slide for the complete presentation or Just This One for the current slide.
5. Open the destination folder and inspect the numbered JPG files. PowerPoint normally creates one image per slide inside a folder; JPG is not a multipage format.

PowerPoint exports the rendered slide area rather than a screenshot of the application window, so menus, toolbars, and surrounding desktop content are excluded.

How to convert with LibreOffice Impress

1. Open the PPTX in Impress and check for substituted fonts, changed layouts, and unsupported effects.
2. Select the slide to export, then choose File → Export.
3. Set the file type to JPEG - Joint Photographic Experts Group, choose a filename and folder, and confirm the export options.

For a complete presentation, exporting to PDF with File → Export as PDF and rendering each PDF page as JPG with an installed PDF or image application is generally more practical than exporting slides individually. PDF preserves vector text and graphics until the final rasterization step.

Animations and transitions become the appearance of a single frame. Embedded video and audio cannot play, interactive controls cannot operate, and hyperlinks are no longer clickable in the JPG files. Converting by renaming .pptx to .zip or extracting its internal ppt/media folder does not convert slides; it only retrieves some original embedded images and omits text, layout, charts, and other slide content.
