how to convert ppt to xps using Microsoft PowerPoint

Every computer with Windows Vista or later includes a virtual XPS printer by default. This means any program that can print, including Microsoft PowerPoint, can save documents as XPS files instead of printing on paper.

To convert a .ppt or .pptx presentation to an .xps file using PowerPoint, follow these steps:

  1. Open your presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  2. Go to File → Print.
  3. In the printer selection dropdown, choose Microsoft XPS Document Writer.
  4. Click Print.
  5. In the dialog box that appears, choose the destination folder and enter a file name with the .xps extension.
  6. Click Save to create the XPS file.

Each slide in your presentation will be saved as a page in the resulting .xps document.

alternative methods for ppt to xps conversion

If you do not have Microsoft PowerPoint installed, you can use free PowerPoint viewers that support printing, such as the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer (discontinued but still usable if available), or convert your presentation to PDF first and then convert the PDF to XPS using tools like Microsoft Print to XPS or third-party converters.

Online converters like Zamzar or Convertio may support PPT to XPS conversion, but be cautious when uploading sensitive presentations to third-party services due to privacy concerns.

advantages of using xps format

  • Preserves formatting: XPS files maintain the layout and appearance of your slides accurately.
  • Secure sharing: XPS files are less editable than PPT files, making them suitable for sharing final versions.
  • Easy printing: XPS is designed for high-quality printing and consistent viewing across devices.
  • Cross-platform viewing: XPS files can be viewed on Windows with the XPS Viewer and on some other platforms with compatible software.
