Convert GPX to MID

Understanding GPX and MID file formats

GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is a widely used XML schema designed for transferring GPS data between applications. It contains waypoints, tracks, and routes, making it essential for GPS devices and mapping software.

MID (MapInfo Data) is a file format used by MapInfo software to store geospatial vector data. It is often paired with a .MIF (MapInfo Interchange Format) file, which contains the actual map data, while the MID file holds attribute data.

Converting GPX to MID

Converting a GPX file to a MID file involves transforming GPS data into a format compatible with MapInfo software. This process is essential for users who need to integrate GPS data into their geospatial analysis workflows.

Best software for GPX to MID conversion

One of the best tools for converting GPX to MID is FME (Feature Manipulation Engine). FME supports a wide range of formats and provides a user-friendly interface for data transformation.

To convert using FME, follow these steps:

• Open FME Workbench.
• File → Open to load your GPX file.
• Add a Writer and select MapInfo MID/MIF as the format.
• Configure the transformation settings as needed.
• File → Run to execute the conversion.

FME's flexibility and support for numerous formats make it an excellent choice for this conversion.
