Converting CD Audio Track Shortcuts directly to MP4 is not possible, because CDA files do not contain audio data. A CDA file is only a shortcut/pointer to a track on an audio CD.

To get an MP4 file, you must first rip the audio from the CD. After that, you can save the audio in a format that uses the MP4 container, usually M4A (AAC audio in an MP4 container). For audio-only content, M4A is the more common and compatible choice than naming the file .mp4.

Important: A CD audio track does not contain video. If your goal is a true video MP4, you need a separate video creation tool to combine the audio with images or video.

Common tools for ripping CD audio include dBpoweramp, Exact Audio Copy, and iTunes/Music. These programs can extract the track from the disc and export it to formats such as M4A, MP3, or WAV.

The usual workflow is:

  • Insert the audio CD into your computer.
  • Open a CD ripping program.
  • Select the track or tracks you want to extract.
  • Choose an output format such as M4A, MP3, or WAV.
  • Rip the track and save the resulting file.

Note: Online converters generally cannot convert CDA files by themselves, because they do not contain the actual audio. You must first access the disc and rip the track locally.

If you specifically need an MP4 file, make sure the converter is creating an audio MP4 container rather than a video file. In many cases, the output will be labeled M4A even though it uses the same underlying container family.
