Understanding TRK and MPVF file formats

TRK files are commonly used as track files in GPS navigation and mapping applications. They store route or path data, including waypoints, coordinates, and sometimes metadata about the journey. These files are often generated by GPS devices or mapping software to record travel routes.

MPVF files, on the other hand, are less common and are typically associated with MapFactor Navigator, a GPS navigation software. MPVF files store vector map data used for offline navigation, including roads, points of interest, and other map features.

How to convert TRK to MPVF

Direct conversion from TRK to MPVF is not widely supported, as these formats serve different purposes: TRK for route tracking and MPVF for map data. However, you can use a two-step process to achieve this:

1. Convert the TRK file to a more common format like GPX (GPS Exchange Format) using GPSBabel or similar tools.
2. Import the GPX file into MapFactor Map Explorer or MapFactor Navigator to integrate the route into your MPVF-based maps.

Recommended software for conversion

• GPSBabel: A powerful, free tool for converting between GPS track formats. To convert TRK to GPX, use File → Open for your TRK file, select GPX as the output format, and save.
• MapFactor Map Explorer: Import the resulting GPX file using File → Import to add the route to your MPVF map data.

Important notes

• There is no direct one-step TRK to MPVF converter due to the different nature of these formats.
• Ensure your TRK file contains valid GPS data before conversion.
