How to convert bwd to word file

People usually need a Word file when a BanglaWord document must be edited by someone using Microsoft Word, submitted to a system that accepts DOCX, or kept in a format supported by current office software. The reliable route is to export the original .bwd file from the program that created it, then save the exported document as DOCX.

What BWD is

.bwd is not a universal document standard. In this context, it is associated with BanglaWord, an older Bengali word-processing application that may store Bengali text using application-specific or legacy font encodings.

Do not rename document.bwd to document.docx; changing the extension does not change the file structure. Microsoft Word and LibreOffice Writer do not include a general-purpose BWD import filter.

If the file did not come from BanglaWord, identify its source application before attempting conversion. Other programs can reuse the .bwd extension, and their files may require a different exporter or vendor utility.

What Word format to use

.docx is Microsoft Word's current default format. It is supported by Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer, OnlyOffice, Google Docs, and most document-management systems, and it supports editable text, tables, comments, and tracked changes.

Use the older .doc format only when a recipient or legacy system explicitly requires Word 97–2003 compatibility. For normal exchange and archiving, save a separate DOCX copy and retain the original BWD file.

Convert with BanglaWord

  1. Open the BWD file in the same version of BanglaWord, or the closest available version, that created it.
  2. Use File → Save As or File → Export. If the program offers DOCX or DOC output, select it. Older BanglaWord versions may instead offer Rich Text Format (.rtf).
  3. Export to .rtf when direct Word export is unavailable. RTF is the preferred intermediate format because it can preserve editable text and basic formatting better than PDF.
  4. Open the RTF file in Microsoft Word. Select File → Save As, choose Word Document (*.docx), and save under a new name such as converted-document.docx.
  5. Check Bengali text, fonts, page breaks, tables, headers, and images before distributing the DOCX file.

LibreOffice Writer can also open RTF, DOC, ODT, and HTML exports and save them through File → Save As as .docx. It is useful where Microsoft Word is unavailable, but it should be used after export from BanglaWord rather than as a direct BWD opener.

When only printing works

If BanglaWord can print the document but cannot export RTF or Word-compatible text, create a PDF through File → Print → Microsoft Print to PDF on Windows or File → Print → Save as PDF on macOS. Convert that PDF with Adobe Acrobat Pro using Export a PDF → Microsoft Word → Word Document.

For browser-based conversion, Adobe Acrobat's online PDF-to-Word service is a reputable option after creating the PDF. Google Drive can open an image-based or scanned PDF with Google Docs for OCR, then the result can be downloaded as DOCX; this method often requires substantial layout correction. Do not upload confidential documents to an online service without approval.

Text and layout limitations

Older Bengali documents may rely on non-Unicode fonts, where visible characters are font-specific glyph codes rather than standard Unicode Bengali text. Installing the original Bengali fonts is often necessary to display an exported RTF correctly, but it does not necessarily convert legacy text to Unicode.

If characters change into incorrect Bengali letters, Latin characters, or symbols, look for a Unicode export or legacy-to-Unicode conversion feature in BanglaWord or obtain a converter designed for that exact font encoding. Replacing fonts in Word can alter line wrapping and may not repair incorrectly encoded text.

PDF-to-DOCX conversion is a last resort: it can turn lines into separate text boxes, distort tables and columns, and lose footnotes or headers. Keep the BWD file, the original program installer, and any required fonts if the document must remain reproducible.

Frequently asked questions

Will my BWD text stay editable when converted to WORD?

It can remain editable when the BWD file is opened through RTF and saved as a modern editable document. A PDF-based conversion may instead preserve pages as fixed content, with text requiring recognition or manual correction.

Will Bangla text become garbled when converting BWD to WORD?

Bangla text can become garbled if the original legacy font or character encoding is not interpreted correctly. Check the converted text and apply the required Bangla font or encoding before saving the result.

Why does the layout change from BWD to WORD?

Page breaks, spacing, tables, images, and font metrics may change during the RTF or PDF intermediate step. Recheck the document after conversion, especially where legacy Bangla fonts or complex formatting are used.

Can I convert the WORD result back to BWD without losing anything?

Usually not, because the editable target document can contain formatting and character mappings that BWD does not represent in the same way. Keep the original BWD file if you may need its exact legacy formatting later.
