MPJ is a proprietary file format, which means that in order to convert Audio Video Interleave files directly to Video Edit Magic Projects (.avi to .mpj conversion), you will need to utilize the original software. This is, however, not a conversion in the proper sense.
Using the Video Edit Magic software will allow you to import AVI video files to existing/new projects, and saving such projects in MPJ format.
As far as we know, there are no available third-party solutions for such conversion request.

Understanding AVI and MPJ file formats
AVI (Audio Video Interleave) is a multimedia container format developed by Microsoft. It stores both audio and video data in a file that allows synchronous audio-with-video playback. AVI files are widely used for storing movies, TV shows, and other video content.
MPJ is a project file format used by VideoPad Video Editor from NCH Software. An MPJ file does not contain actual video or audio data, but rather references to media files, edits, effects, and project settings. It is used to save and resume video editing projects in VideoPad.
How to convert AVI to MPJ
Since MPJ is a project file and not a media format, you cannot directly convert an AVI video into an MPJ file. Instead, you need to import the AVI file into VideoPad Video Editor and then save your project as an MPJ file. The MPJ file will reference your AVI file and any edits you make.
Step-by-step conversion process
- Download and install VideoPad Video Editor from the NCH Software website.
- Open VideoPad Video Editor.
- Go to File → Add File(s) and select your AVI file to import it into the project.
- Edit your video as needed using the available tools and effects.
- To save your project, go to File → Save Project As and choose a location and name for your MPJ file.
Best software for AVI to MPJ conversion
The recommended and most reliable software for this process is VideoPad Video Editor by NCH Software. It is specifically designed to work with MPJ project files and supports a wide range of video formats, including AVI.
Key points to remember
- MPJ files do not contain video data; they reference your original AVI and other media files.
- Always keep your original AVI file in the same location, or update the file path in VideoPad if you move it.
- To share your edited video, you must export it from VideoPad to a standard video format (e.g., MP4, AVI).
