Convert APK to DMG
Package an Android APK in a DMG without mistaking it for a native Mac application.

We don’t have a dedicated online converter for APK to DMG yet, but you can convert APK files online to these formats:

A Mac user may need a DMG to distribute or archive an Android APK as a single macOS-mountable file. This packaging change does not make the Android app executable on macOS.
What the APK format is
An .apk file is an Android application package containing compiled code, resources, assets, and a manifest. Android Studio and Gradle commonly produce APKs, which are installed on Android phones, tablets, Android TV devices, and Android emulators. APKs are also used for sideloading test builds or releases distributed outside Google Play.
What the DMG format is
A .dmg file is an Apple Disk Image. macOS mounts it as a virtual volume so users can open included files or drag a Mac application into /Applications. DMG images can use compression, optional encryption, and read-only distribution, but they do not include an Android runtime and cannot convert Android code into macOS code.
How to package an APK in a DMG
The technically correct operation is to place the original APK in a DMG container. The APK remains unchanged.
- Create a staging folder and copy the APK into it:
mkdir -p ~/Desktop/AndroidPackage
cp app-release.apk ~/Desktop/AndroidPackage/ - Create a compressed, read-only DMG with macOS's built-in
hdiutilcommand:hdiutil create -volname AndroidPackage -srcfolder ~/Desktop/AndroidPackage -ov -format UDZO ~/Desktop/AndroidPackage.dmg - Double-click
AndroidPackage.dmgto confirm that it mounts and containsapp-release.apk. Eject the mounted image before distributing it.
For a graphical workflow, open Disk Utility → File → New Image → Image from Folder, select the folder containing the APK, choose compressed as the image format, and save the resulting DMG.
For repeated releases, the third-party create-dmg utility can add a custom volume name, background, icon, and layout. It changes the DMG presentation only; it does not alter or translate the APK.
An online converter is unnecessary for this operation. A browser service cannot make an APK compatible with macOS, and uploading a proprietary, signed, or unreleased APK exposes it to a third party. Use local tools such as hdiutil or Disk Utility instead.
Compatibility and quality limits
Packaging does not modify the APK, so the hash of the extracted APK should match the original hash. The DMG itself has a different hash because it contains filesystem and image metadata, and compression may reduce its size without changing the APK's contents.
Recipients must extract the APK and install it on an Android device or load it into a compatible Android emulator, such as the emulator supplied with Android Studio. Finder and macOS cannot launch an APK directly; emulator support can also depend on the Mac's processor architecture and the Android image being used.
If the required result is a native Mac application, no APK-to-DMG conversion can produce it. The software must be ported or rebuilt for macOS and then distributed as a Mac application or installer with appropriate Apple code signing and, for distribution outside controlled environments, notarization. Android APK signing does not replace Apple signing or notarization.
Simply put, it is impossible to convert APK to DMG directly.
Thus, there is no so-called apk to dmg converter or a free online .apk to .dmg conversion tool.
