Convert YRP to MP4

A YGOPro replay must be rendered to a video before it can be uploaded, edited, or played on devices that do not run the simulator. The conversion consists of playing the replay and recording the simulator window; a YRP file does not contain video frames that a converter can extract.

What the YRP format is

YRP is a replay format used by YGOPro-family Yu-Gi-Oh! simulators, including compatible clients such as EDOPro. It stores duel actions, card states, and timing data that the simulator uses to reproduce a match. Depending on the client version, the file may use a binary or serialized internal format, but it is not a conventional video container and does not provide an audiovisual recording.

Open the file with the simulator that created it or with a compatible build. Playback can also depend on the matching game version, card database, scripts, and other client data. VLC, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and ordinary video converters cannot open a YRP file as a video.

What the MP4 format is

MP4 is a video container widely accepted by web browsers, phones, televisions, video editors, and social platforms. H.264 video with AAC audio is a common compatibility combination, and its lossy compression normally produces much smaller files than a lossless screen capture.

An MP4 made from a replay contains only what was displayed and captured: it cannot restore higher-resolution card artwork, an original camera view, or audio that the simulator did not play.

How to convert YRP to MP4

1. Install the YGOPro-family client that created the replay, or obtain the compatible client version and data files from the sender. Use the client’s replay folder or its file-open command to make the .yrp file available.
2. Open the replay from the simulator’s replay screen, commonly through Replay → Open. Confirm that cards, effects, scripts, and playback speed work correctly before recording.
3. Install OBS Studio and add a Window Capture source for the simulator. Use Game Capture if Window Capture does not capture the client correctly. Set the OBS canvas and output resolution to the simulator’s displayed resolution, such as 1920×1080.
4. In Settings → Output → Recording, select H.264 through NVENC, AMD AMF, Intel QSV, or x264, depending on the available hardware. Record to MKV rather than MP4 while capturing; MKV keeps the recording usable if OBS or the operating system stops unexpectedly.
5. Start recording, reset or start the replay, and let it play at a fixed speed until the duel ends. Stop recording after the final screen has appeared.
6. Use File → Remux Recordings in OBS to create an MP4 without re-encoding when the recorded codecs are compatible. With FFmpeg, the equivalent operation is ffmpeg -i duel.mkv -c copy duel.mp4.

If the target device does not accept the recorded codecs, re-encode instead of remuxing: ffmpeg -i duel.mkv -c:v libx264 -c:a aac -movflags +faststart duel.mp4. HandBrake can perform the same H.264/AAC conversion through its graphical interface.

Online converters and compatibility limits

Generic online services cannot normally interpret YRP because they do not emulate the simulator or supply its card data and scripts. Services such as CloudConvert or Convertio may convert a recorded MKV or other standard video to MP4, but uploading the original YRP will usually produce an unsupported-file error. Online processing also exposes the uploaded recording and may impose file-size or duration limits.

Set the simulator to the desired resolution and frame rate before recording; enlarging a low-resolution capture cannot restore detail. Disable desktop notifications and overlays, capture the simulator’s audio only if required, and check the finished MP4 for dropped frames, missing effects, and audio synchronization. If the replay requires an unavailable client version, card database, or script set, accurate rendering may not be possible.
