How to convert snb to txt file

  • Ebooks
  • No ratings yet.

A Bambook ebook may need conversion when a reader, editor, archive, or text-processing tool accepts only plain text. Converting .snb to .txt produces a smaller, searchable file but removes ebook layout and other presentation data.

What the SNB format is

For ebooks, SNB is the Shanda Bambook ebook format used by Bambook devices and related software. An SNB file can contain structured text, formatting, metadata, and embedded images. It is unrelated to Samsung S Note files, which are outside the Ebooks context.

What the TXT format is

TXT contains unformatted character data. It opens in virtually any operating system, ebook reader, text editor, and command-line tool, making it suitable for full-text search, scripting, basic editing, and compact archival copies. TXT does not retain fonts, styled headings, images, hyperlinks, page layout, cover art, or most ebook metadata.

Convert with Calibre

Calibre is the main desktop option because it supports SNB as an ebook input format and TXT as an output format. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

  1. Install Calibre from calibre-ebook.com and open it.
  2. Select Add books and choose the .snb file.
  3. Select the imported book and choose Convert books → Convert individually.
  4. Set the output format in the upper-right corner to TXT.
  5. Open the TXT Output section and select UTF-8 when an encoding option is available. Review the line-break and paragraph-break settings.
  6. Click OK. Calibre places the result in its library; use Save to disk to copy the TXT file to another folder.

For command-line conversion, use:

ebook-convert input.snb output.txt

The command uses Calibre's installed conversion plugins. If Calibre reports that the input format is unsupported, update Calibre and confirm that the file is a Shanda Bambook SNB rather than a file with the same extension from another application.

Use an online converter

Services such as Zamzar or Convertio may provide SNB-to-TXT conversion, but uncommon-format support can change. Before uploading, confirm that the service explicitly lists SNB as the input and TXT as the output; do not assume that a generic ebook converter supports Bambook files. Upload only books that contain no confidential data, and avoid services that require removing DRM or installing unknown software.

Check the converted text

TXT conversion normally discards images, styling, hyperlinks, footnotes, cover information, and ebook metadata. It may also alter chapter order, paragraph spacing, soft line breaks, headers, and footers. Open the result in a UTF-8-capable editor and check non-Latin or accented characters, chapter order, and paragraph boundaries before using it for archival or automated processing.

DRM-protected SNB files cannot be converted by ordinary tools unless authorized software provides access or an official export path. A scan or image-only ebook requires separate optical character recognition; converting its container directly will not create readable text.
