Convert SHE to DWG

Convert legacy MEDUSA4 SHE drawings to editable DWG through direct export or DXF.

Make DWG files online

We can't read SHE files yet, so this conversion isn't available. If you can export your work to one of these formats - or others - we'll turn it into DWG:

How to convert she to dwg file

A recipient using AutoCAD or another DWG-based CAD system may be unable to edit a native MEDUSA drawing stored as .she. Exporting it to DWG makes the geometry available for downstream editing, exchange, and plotting.

What the SHE format is

SHE is a native 2D drawing format associated primarily with MEDUSA4, the engineering CAD system developed by CAD Schroer. It is used for mechanical layouts, schematics, engineering drawings, and related MEDUSA drafting data, and is most often found in legacy engineering archives or organizations that still operate MEDUSA4.

SHE is not a general CAD interchange format, so ordinary DWG utilities normally cannot open it directly. Confirm that the file originated in MEDUSA4 before converting it; other software can use the same three-letter extension for unrelated formats.

What the DWG format is

DWG is the native drawing format associated with AutoCAD and is supported by many professional CAD applications. It can store vector geometry, layers, blocks, dimensions, text, layouts, and, where supported, 3D objects and drawing metadata.

DWG is suitable when the recipient must edit the drawing in AutoCAD or another DWG-capable system. Select the DWG version required by the recipient: older CAD releases may not open files saved in newer DWG versions.

How to convert SHE to DWG

  1. Open the .she file in a MEDUSA4 installation that includes the required SHE reader and CAD export interface. Use File → Open or the equivalent MEDUSA4 drawing command.
  2. Check units, sheet scale, layers, line types, text styles, dimensions, title blocks, fonts, and external references. Resolve missing resources in MEDUSA4 before exporting when possible.
  3. Use MEDUSA4's CADConvert or the version-specific export command. Some installations can write DWG directly; if a DWG option is available, select the DWG version required by the destination system and export a copy of the original.
  4. If direct DWG output is unavailable, export .dxf instead. The command may appear as File → Export → DXF or File → Save As with DXF selected. Choose a DXF version supported by the target CAD program.
  5. For a DXF intermediary, open the exported file in AutoCAD, BricsCAD, DraftSight, or another CAD application that can save DWG. Check the import units and scale, measure a known dimension with DIST, then use File → Save As to select the required DWG version.
  6. Run AUDIT in AutoCAD or the equivalent repair command, then inspect layers, text, dimensions, line types, blocks, hatches, and plotted output at several zoom levels.

The ODA File Converter can convert supported DXF and DWG versions after MEDUSA4 has produced a DXF file. It is not normally a SHE reader and cannot replace the MEDUSA4 export step.

An online service such as CloudConvert may be suitable for a nonconfidential DXF-to-DWG conversion if its current format list explicitly supports both formats. Do not assume that a service advertising DXF-to-DWG can read SHE, and do not upload confidential engineering drawings unless its retention, deletion, and security terms are acceptable.

Quality and compatibility checks

The export may convert MEDUSA-specific entities into ordinary lines, arcs, text, blocks, or dimensions. Parametric constraints, proprietary symbols, associative behavior, hatches, fonts, line weights, external references, and application-specific annotations may be lost or require manual reconstruction.

Strictly 2D drawings usually transfer more predictably than drawings containing linked resources or proprietary objects. DXF files may omit or misinterpret unit metadata, so verify scale against a known dimension rather than relying only on the imported unit setting.

Keep the original .she file and any exported .dxf beside the final .dwg. Compare the DWG with the source for geometry, scale, layer visibility, text, dimensions, title blocks, and printed or plotted appearance before delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Will my MEDUSA4 SHE drawing stay editable when converted to DWG?

Usually, the supported 2D geometry can remain editable as DWG lines, arcs, text, dimensions, and other CAD entities. SHE-specific objects or features that have no DWG equivalent may be flattened, approximated, or omitted.

Do SHE layers, fonts, and dimensions convert correctly to DWG?

They may convert with changes because layer names, fonts, line styles, and dimension settings must be mapped between the two CAD formats. Missing fonts or unsupported SHE styling can cause different text spacing, line appearance, or dimension layouts.

Why are some objects missing after converting SHE to DWG?

Objects can be missing when they use MEDUSA4-specific entities, symbols, or drawing features that the DWG export path does not support. Converting through DXF can introduce additional compatibility changes, so the result should be checked against the original drawing.

Will the scale and layout stay the same from SHE to DWG?

The layout can stay accurate, but only if the conversion preserves the source drawing units, coordinate system, and scale settings. Incorrect unit mapping or unsupported fonts can make geometry, text, or printed dimensions appear at the wrong size.
