Free online MSG to JPG converter

Email systems, document portals, and image-only archives may accept JPG files but not Outlook MSG files. Converting an email to JPG renders its visible content as an image for sharing, embedding, or visual recordkeeping, while the original MSG should be retained when message data matters.

What the MSG format is

MSG is Microsoft Outlook’s message-container format. It can store the sender, recipients, subject, dates, formatted body, embedded images, attachments, and Outlook-specific properties. Outlook creates MSG files when a user saves an individual message with File → Save As; they also occur in exported mail, legal-discovery packages, support records, and email attachments.

What the JPG format is

JPG, also called JPEG, is a compressed raster-image format supported by web browsers, phones, image editors, document systems, and social platforms. Its relatively small files suit previews, screenshots, and photographic content. JPG does not preserve selectable text, email headers as structured data, hyperlinks, attachments, message metadata, or multiple pages in one file.

How to convert MSG to JPG

The conversion must render the message as an image; changing .msg to .jpg does not convert the file. The simplest method is the built-in converter on 101convert.com, which can be used without installing software:

1. Open the MSG-to-JPG converter on 101convert.com.
2. Select or drag the .msg file into the upload area.
3. Choose JPG as the output format and start the conversion.
4. Download the resulting JPG file or files, then check that the message content is readable.

A message longer than one rendered page may produce multiple JPG files because JPG has no native multi-page structure. Attachments may not appear in the image unless the converter explicitly renders them; convert them separately when their contents are required.

Use Outlook with a PDF intermediary

For local processing or greater control over page layout, first render the MSG in desktop Outlook and then convert the PDF pages to JPG:

1. Open the MSG file in desktop Microsoft Outlook and verify that the body, inline images, and attachments display correctly.
2. Choose File → Print. On Windows, select Microsoft Print to PDF; on macOS, use the system print dialog’s PDF option. Save the resulting PDF.
3. Open the PDF in an application that exports pages as images. In Adobe Acrobat, use File → Export To → Image → JPEG.
4. Set the output resolution to approximately 150–300 dpi. Use 300 dpi when small email text must remain readable, accepting a larger file.

This route allows control over page size, orientation, margins, and resolution, but it requires Outlook to interpret the MSG content correctly. Outlook does not normally save an email directly as a JPG.

Quality and compatibility limits

• JPG uses lossy compression, so small fonts can blur and sharp text edges can show artifacts. Use PNG instead when lossless text rendering is required and the receiving system accepts PNG.
• The output is a visual copy, not an editable or searchable email. It cannot be replied to, inspected as an MSG, or used to recover the original attachments.
• Protected messages, unusual fonts, signatures, tracking elements, unsupported Outlook features, and broken external images can render differently in Outlook and other converters. Check the sender, recipients, subject, dates, body, inline images, and page count.
• Keep the original MSG for legal, audit, or archival purposes. Review confidential content before uploading a message to any third-party processing service.
