Free online MHT to HTML converter

A browser, content-management system, or code editor may require an ordinary .html file instead of a packaged .mht page. Conversion extracts the page markup and its resources so the page can be edited, published, or opened by software without MHTML support.

What the MHT format is

MHT, also called MHTML, is a MIME multipart/related file that packages a saved web page into one document. Its sections can contain the page's HTML, images, CSS, fonts, and other resources encoded within the same file; the usual extensions are .mht and .mhtml.

Browsers and web-archive tools use MHTML to save a page snapshot for offline viewing. Older Internet Explorer versions offered File → Save As → Web Archive, single file; Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, help systems, browser extensions, and document-management software may also create or display MHT files.

What the HTML format is

HTML is the markup that structures a web page for browsers and other document processors. A normal .html file commonly references CSS, JavaScript, images, and fonts through relative paths in a neighboring resource directory, although resources can also be embedded as data.

HTML is easier to inspect in a code editor, modify, publish to a website, or process with software that does not understand MIME archives. The result may therefore be an .html file plus an assets folder, rather than one self-contained file.

How to convert MHT to HTML

Using 101convert

1. Open the MHT-to-HTML converter on 101convert.com. It can be used free without installing software.
2. Select the source .mht or .mhtml file.
3. Choose HTML as the output format and start the conversion.
4. Download the generated .html file and any asset folder or archive supplied with it.
5. Open the result locally and test images, links, styles, character encoding, and any required scripts. Keep the asset folder beside the HTML file unless the generated markup uses different paths.

Do not upload confidential pages, private email exports, or restricted internal documents to an online service unless its handling policy permits it.

Using a MIME-compatible desktop application

Open the MHT file in an application that supports MHTML, then use its save or export command and select a complete-page HTML option, such as File → Save As → Webpage, complete. The application may create one .html file and a directory containing images and other dependencies.

Browser support differs by product and version. Internet Explorer is obsolete and should not be installed solely for this task; current browsers may save MHTML but may not reliably open every MHT file or export it as ordinary HTML. If a browser cannot parse the file, use 101convert or a desktop application with explicit MHTML support.

Renaming .mht to .html is not conversion. The renamed file still contains MIME boundaries, headers, and encoded sections, so an HTML parser may display it incorrectly or treat it as invalid markup.

Quality and compatibility limitations

The output represents the saved snapshot, not the original live website. Server-side features, databases, login sessions, live feeds, streaming media, plug-ins, and scripts that depend on the original server may be absent or nonfunctional. Forms may display but fail to submit.

Conversion can also change layout when the source uses unusual encodings, MIME content IDs, inline styles, unsupported CSS, or browser-specific markup. Check for missing images, broken relative paths, altered fonts, incorrect character encoding, and unsafe or blocked scripts. If the output is delivered as a ZIP archive, extract it while preserving the generated directory structure.

Keep the original .mht with the converted files when preservation matters. MHT retains the snapshot as one package, while the HTML version is easier to edit and publish but depends on its linked assets remaining together.
