Convert EGG to ZIP

ZIP is required by many upload services, operating systems, and recipients that cannot open ALZip’s EGG archives. The conversion is a repackaging operation: extract the EGG contents, then create a new ZIP archive from those files.

What the EGG format is

EGG is a proprietary archive format developed by ESTsoft for ALZip. It can store files and folders with compression, encryption, and split-volume support. EGG files are most often received from ALZip users or software distributors.

The .egg extension is ambiguous. Python distribution packages also commonly use .egg; those files are usually ZIP-based and are not necessarily ALZip archives. If ALZip or Bandizip cannot open the file, identify the application that created it before attempting conversion.

What the ZIP format is

ZIP is supported natively or through standard archive tools on Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile devices, and most file-sharing services. It combines multiple files and folders into one archive and may reduce their total size. JPEG images, MP4 video, already-compressed installers, and many PDF files usually gain little from another compression pass.

Use ZIP when a recipient lacks EGG support, a website accepts only ZIP uploads, or the archive must be opened with commonly available software.

Convert with ALZip

1. Install ALZip from ESTsoft’s official ALTools download source and open the .egg file.
2. Enter the archive password if prompted.
3. Choose Extract or Extract Here and extract every item to a new temporary folder.
4. Open ALZip’s archive-creation command, usually New Archive or File → New Archive.
5. Add the extracted files or folders, select ZIP as the format, choose the destination, and create the archive.

Add the extracted content, not the original .egg file. Add the contents directly if recipients should see the files at the ZIP’s top level; add the containing folder if the ZIP should open with one top-level directory.

Convert with Bandizip

Current Bandizip versions commonly open ALZip EGG archives and can create ZIP archives:

1. Open the EGG archive in Bandizip and select Extract.
2. Extract all files to a temporary folder, preserving the directory structure.
3. Select the extracted files or folder in File Explorer and choose Bandizip → Add to archive.
4. Set the archive format to zip, configure an optional password or split size, and start the operation.

Support can vary by application version and by EGG variant. If Bandizip cannot read the archive, use ALZip for extraction and any ZIP-capable archiver for the second step.

Use an online converter

For a non-sensitive archive, check an established service such as Convertio or Zamzar only if its current upload page explicitly accepts .egg as the input and ZIP as the output. Upload the file, select ZIP, start the conversion, and download the result; then delete the uploaded and downloaded copies when the service provides that option.

Do not upload confidential documents, credentials, private backups, personal data, or malware samples. Online services may impose size limits, reject encrypted or split EGG archives, and provide less control over filenames and directory metadata than local software.

Compatibility and data limits

For ordinary files, extraction followed by ZIP creation is normally lossless: the file bytes are restored and compressed again, so images, documents, and other content are not degraded. The new archive does not retain EGG-specific compression behavior, archive comments, recovery information, or all original timestamps, permissions, and other metadata.

EGG encryption must be successfully unlocked before its contents can be placed in a new archive. ZIP encryption is configured separately during ZIP creation, and AES-encrypted ZIP files may not open in older built-in archive tools.

For a split EGG archive, keep every volume together in one folder and open the first volume identified by ALZip or Bandizip. A missing part prevents complete extraction. After conversion, open the ZIP and compare its file list with the EGG contents before deleting the original.
