A recipient using legacy Edraw Process Diagram software may request a .pfd file when the source is an EdrawMax .eddx drawing. These are proprietary editable drawing formats, and a reliable direct conversion is not generally available.
What the EDDX format is
EDDX is the native XML-based diagram format used by Wondershare EdrawMax. It stores editable shapes, connectors, text, symbol libraries, images, layers, page settings, and other diagram data for flowcharts, network diagrams, floor plans, UML diagrams, and similar documents.
EDDX is intended for EdrawMax and related Edraw software, not for general interchange. Its XML-based structure does not make it compatible with older Edraw formats or third-party diagram applications.
What the PFD format is
In the Edraw context, PFD is a legacy Process Flow Diagram format used by older Edraw Process Diagram releases. It stores an editable diagram for that software, which is its main advantage over PDF when the recipient must continue editing the drawing in a legacy Edraw installation.
.pfd is not .pdf. The extension is also used by unrelated products, so confirm that the recipient specifically needs an Edraw Process Diagram file before attempting conversion.
How to handle an EDDX file when PFD is required
- Keep the original
diagram.eddxunchanged and work from a copy. - Open the copy in the current desktop version of Wondershare EdrawMax.
- Select File → Save As and inspect the listed output types. Save as PFD only if the installed version explicitly offers an Edraw Process Diagram
*.pfdtype. - Open the resulting file in the recipient's Edraw Process Diagram installation and check every page, shape, connector, font, image, and text block.
Do not rename diagram.eddx to diagram.pfd; changing an extension does not change the file's internal format.
If EdrawMax does not list PFD under File → Save As, there is no supported direct export path in that installation. Older Edraw Process Diagram versions may not open EDDX files at all, because EDDX is a newer Edraw format. In that case, recreate the diagram in the legacy application or provide a format that the recipient's software can import, after testing it.
No reputable online converter can be recommended for EDDX-to-PFD conversion. Browser converters generally do not support both proprietary Edraw formats and cannot be relied on to preserve editable diagram objects.
Alternatives and compatibility limits
If the recipient needs only a viewable or printable copy, export from EdrawMax using File → Export → PDF. PDF preserves the page appearance but does not retain fully editable Edraw objects. Export SVG only when the receiving application supports SVG import and the diagram has been tested; imported SVG content may become separate graphic objects rather than native process-diagram symbols.
Even where PFD output is available, newer EdrawMax features can be lost or changed in the older format. Modern symbol libraries, themes, data-linked elements, text effects, page settings, and connector behavior may be substituted, flattened, or omitted. Retain the EDDX source until the recipient confirms that the PFD copy opens and remains usable.
Simply put, it is impossible to convert EDDX to PFD directly.
Thus, there is no so-called eddx to pfd converter or a free online .eddx to .pfd conversion tool.
