Convert EDDX to PDF

Recipients may need a diagram that opens without EdrawMax, prints consistently, or can be archived as a fixed-layout document. Converting the editable project to PDF preserves its appearance for sharing, printing, and review, but not its full EdrawMax editing structure.

What the EDDX format is

EDDX is Wondershare EdrawMax’s XML-based project format for editable diagrams. EdrawMax users create EDDX files for flowcharts, network diagrams, floor plans, organization charts, UML diagrams, and other visual documents. An EDDX file can retain diagram objects, connectors, layers, formatting, and other project information that a PDF does not normally preserve.

What the PDF format is

PDF is a fixed-layout document format supported by web browsers, operating systems, office applications, printers, and dedicated PDF readers. It is suitable for distributing a finished diagram, attaching it to documentation, printing it, or retaining a read-only copy. PDF text may remain selectable, but the file is generally not recoverable as a fully editable EdrawMax project.

How to convert EDDX to PDF

Use EdrawMax desktop

1. Open Wondershare EdrawMax and select File → Open, then choose the .eddx file.
2. Check the page size, orientation, page breaks, scale, visible layers, background elements, and print area.
3. Use the application’s PDF export command, commonly File → Export → PDF or an equivalent option in the export panel. Menu names vary between EdrawMax versions.
4. Choose the destination and export the file. Open the resulting .pdf in a PDF viewer and inspect every page.

If the installed EdrawMax version has no PDF export command, choose File → Print and select Microsoft Print to PDF on Windows or Save as PDF on macOS. Set the paper size, orientation, margins, and scaling in the print dialog; automatic fitting can make labels too small or split a diagram across unexpected pages.

Use EdrawMax Online

1. Open EdrawMax Online, sign in if required, and upload or open the .eddx file.
2. Review the imported diagram, then use its PDF export or download option.
3. Save the PDF and verify fonts, page boundaries, connector placement, and embedded images.

EdrawMax Online is the most suitable browser-based option because it is the format’s vendor-supported service. Available import and export features, file-size limits, storage, and account requirements can depend on the current plan. Do not upload confidential diagrams unless the service’s privacy and retention terms are acceptable.

General conversion services such as CloudConvert, Zamzar, and Convertio should be used only when their current format lists explicitly show EDDX input. Many generic converters support common image, office, and PDF formats but do not interpret EdrawMax project files; renaming .eddx to another extension does not convert it.

Quality and compatibility checks

• Large canvases can become multiple PDF pages. Choose a larger paper size, adjust the print area, or set a custom scale before exporting.
• Missing fonts may be substituted, changing line breaks, text wrapping, and object dimensions. Install the source fonts on the conversion computer where licensing permits.
• Native PDF export usually gives better results than print-to-PDF for transparency, gradients, hyperlinks, embedded images, and selectable text, but inspect those elements in the finished file.
• Check arrowheads, connectors, layer visibility, page borders, and small labels at the intended print or viewing size.
• Keep the original .eddx file separately. The PDF is a distribution copy and generally cannot be reopened as a fully editable EdrawMax diagram.
